Synopsis

In the wake of Darken Rahl's death, one of his commanders, General Grix, tries to claim the throne of D'Hara for himself and eliminate anyone who could challenge him, including Richard Cypher, the rightful heir. Kahlan and Zedd track Grix's D'Haran soldiers, who plan to threaten his rivals with deadly force. Meanwhile, Richard and Cara track Grix to a brothel run by Denna, the Mord'Sith who once tried to eliminate the Seeker for Rahl. Richard soon discovers he is to be an unwilling pawn in Denna's deadly plot to control the throne herself, a scheme in which he may pay the ultimate price.

Review by Tracy Casebere

Resurrection – noun, the act of rising from the dead. Unsurprisingly with an episode title like that, there are a couple of characters returning in this episode that we haven’t seen since series 1. Before we find out just who they are, let’s see what’s been happening in land of the Seeker.

Hacking and slashing their way through the Midlands is how we find Richard and the gang. I know, I know, its how we always find them, but the episode gets better so don’t worry. A group of D’Haran soldiers have been sent to kill Richard (again, no change there) so that he won’t be around to take up the mantle of Lord Rahl; as if he wanted it anyway!

So off they go to confront the General responsible to – I don’t know, tell him to quit trying to kill Richard, only the General is nowhere to be found. Their searching of him leads both Richard and Cara to a brothel. The Midland’s it seems is full of them. This particular brothel however, is run by none other than Denna, aka, bad-ass-bitch.

Don’t be fooled by her pretty exterior, she’s still the hardened psychopath we all know and love from last series. She has a plan, and it’s a pretty damn good one. With the help of a wizard (with all these rogue wizards running about, you’d think they would need a license of something to practice, but no) Denna is able to bring any spirit back from the Underworld.

The first spirit she summons is a surprising choice and is none other than Dennee, Kahlan’s sister. Dennee who has had more lives than hot dinners, is put into a freshly dead body (I know, oxymoron) and effectively returns to life, albeit with a different face. She’s sent on her merry way to kill Cara. Something she obviously has no qualms in doing seeing as how Cara murdered her in the first place.

Kahlan manages to stop Dennee killing Cara just in the nick of time (the Confession noise was just beginning to sound) and demands to know who the hell she is.

I’M YOUR SISTER.

Right, because that’s not weird and creepy at all. After a little disbelief, everyone is happy again, everyone except Richard who is currently chained up and getting his armpits waxed again by Denna.

Ok, not quite. She actually wants to kill him and replace his spirit with that of the General’s who she’s just trained and had killed earlier. Her plan is both good and successful – she kills Richard and down he goes into the Underworld, stark naked might I add. I doubt the nakedness has any metaphorical meaning other than to impress the viewers.

I may have been slightly impressed.

Meanwhile, back in the land of the living (and clothed) the General is submissively taking orders from Denna whilst in Richard’s body. And just as Denna is admiring that particular body, Kahlan and friends come crashing in to start some serious business.

The business ends with Kahlan dramatically declaring, “He’s not the man I love” before shoving her daggers into Richard (which again, is not a metaphor) and kills him. Hold your ponies, they have a plan. With the last of the resurrection elixir, they bring Richard back from the Underworld and all is all right in the world of the living again.

Oh except Dennee is still “alive” and Denna has gone AWOL taking along with her the compass Richard needs to find the Stone of Tears. The first problem is easily sorted (apparently), they just let Dennee take over the life of the woman’s body she is possessing. As for the second problem, that’s best left for another episode. Until next time.
