WFR: Plants
Snake VineA snake vine is an odd looking vine with dusky, variegated leaves hunkered around the stem that winds in a stranglehold around the trunks of trees, slowly killing them. The thorns are hidden within pods that run along the length of the vine. If the plant is threatened, a thorn will burrow itself into the flesh of the vine’s attacker and wiggles itself ever deeper into their flesh. The bite of the vine brings on a fever, leaving one without an appetite, at times unbearable hot and at others shivering with chills and with a nauseating headache. If not removed, using a special root in Westland, the thorn will bring about its hosts death. Once a thorn is removed, it must be burnt immediately otherwise it will find a new host.
The Snake Vine is first identified by Zedd up until then Richard had referred to it as the vine.
Snake vines give off an odd smell, “a decomposition of something that had been wholly unsavoury even in life”.
Richard first notices the snake plant killing a balsam fir. He had, however found a sprig of the snake vine in the Blue Clay Jar at his father's home.
Only when the Boxes of Orden are put into play, does snake vine begin to grow.

Nannyberry Tree
These trees are easily distinguishable by their red purplish leaves in autumn and dark blue berries.
Aum Plant
Aum Plants are known for their medical uses. If the sticky, clear liquid, released by gently squeezing their tender stems, is applied to a wound, it will numb the pain and speed up the healing.
Richard uses some of this plants liquid to soothe his snake vine bite.
Pine
White Birch
The white trunk is covered in little black spots. The tree gives the impression of hundreds of eyes watching your every movement.
Wayward Pine
Large Pines that have a hollow area around the trunk of the tree are known as wayward pines. The part of the branch closest to the trunk is often bare, creating the hollow room that is usually high enough for a full grown man like Richard to stand upright, while the branches closer to the ground are neddled and provide shelter even during heavy rain.
The trees are fire resistant allowing the travelers to light a small fire as long as they are careful.
It is in a wayward bound that Richard learns about the origin of Westland and the boundaries and why the mysterious Kahlan Amnell is in Westland.
