More lives than a bloody cat!
There’s a certain character from the Legend of the Seeker series which really gets on my billy goats gruff. Her name is Dennee and I just wish she’d die already, or rather - again. Let me explain. Dennee is Kahlan’s sister and originally died in the opening episode, Prophecy, in the first series.
Despite having very little screen time, I really felt Dennee’s death and the impact it had on Kahlan. Yes, Kahlan may have had bigger issues at hand to deal with at that moment in time, but you could see she just wanted to stay with her sister in her final moments. That’s fine. In fact it was probably one of the strongest scenes from series 1.
Further down the line in the series we learn that Dennee didn’t really die at all (or maybe she did but a Mord’Sith brought her back from death?) Anyway, she’s found a few months later imprisoned, chained and heavily pregnant. I admit I was a little surprised having been a major fan of the books and honestly was not expecting this storyline at all. Note: That’s just a polite way of saying, WHAT THE HELL WERE THE WRITERS THINKING?!
Still, she gives birth and all is well - except for the fact her baby is of the male persuasion, and so congratulations soon turn to commiserations. To put it simply, male Confessors cannot be allowed to live; their powers are easily corruptible and they always turn out bad. It’s bordering on sexism but that’s cool, we don’t particularly feel a male could get away with wearing a Confessor’s dress anyway.
We go through an entire episode of moral dilemmas – to kill the baby, or to not kill the baby. The end result is for Dennee and bad-baby to escape the Midlands and head for an island where he can grow up free from corruption. And whatever that means I don’t know. Corruption isn’t exactly any one influence as far as I’m aware and I should know, I’ve had several.
Skip, hop and jump over to series 2 and it quickly becomes apparent that Dennee is no longer alive thanks to a casual little admission from Cara - who killed her some months ago. I’m not sure if it was just me, but Dennee’s second death was a tad (and change tad to EXTREMELY) anti-climatic. For a start, it didn’t even happen on screen. It was just casually mentioned like you do when you ask someone to pick you up some milk. Still, her death served a purpose; it provided us with a great episode called Broken.
Were we sad that Dennee died for the second time? Hell no – sorry, Underworld no!
Then cue to last week when an episode titled Resurrection aired. And who just happened to be summoned from the Underworld and placed in a brand new body? Oh that’s right, Dennee. Granted, she doesn’t look like the Dennee we’ve all come to know and depreciate, but it was most definitely her. Couldn’t they have just left her in the Underworld for all eternity?
No. They’d rather she was living someone else’s life, complete with a baby boy and a mother who apparently doesn’t mind that her daughter’s body has been replaced with the spirit of a dead woman?!
Talk about issues.
So when Kahlan says to Dennee, “I’ve already lost you twice, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you again,” I actually shouted at my television: “YOU SHOULD BE USED TO IT BY NOW THEN!”
There’s an old saying that goes, “Let sleeping dogs lie.” That’s all well and good but I think in this case, “Let sleeping dogs die,” might be more appropriate. Kill her and get it over with already. We’re a tough bunch, we can take it. Again.

The writers most likely brought her back so that there was another confessor alive...or atleast that was part of the reasoning. It really isn't a big deal...and I like the actress who is playing the new resurrected Dennee. She's much better, and I've watched her on several other shows. It's not like they are messing w/ richard and kahlan's time together so I don't find it quite so irritating. If it was still the other actress then I would probably not like it so much...but this one is just fine. There are tons of shows that keep bringing back the same character, even from the dead,....not just Legend of the Seeker. I'm not trying to argue, I do see your point....but to me it's fine and not at all that bothersom.

I like to believe that Dennee was brought back to allow Cara to atone for her sin of killing her. It gives Kahlan more reason to want Cara in the group now. Not that I'm complaining about that... Cara is great.

Yes that too...

LOL! I totally get your frustration. My pet peeve about the show is the Underworld and the Keeper. I just feel it's crappy that no matter what type of person you were in life, you end up there. I know they are trying to parallel it with the Greek Underworld, but it just sucks. And the fact that the Keeper wants everything to die so he can have them there with him. What? He's an eternal being. As he says constantly, everyone eventually ends up there anyway. So, dude, what's the freakin hurry?? He's acting like a petulant child. But whatever. It means we get to see Darken Rahl a lot, which makes me a happy girl, and cool monsters.

I hear you man! If only she was good looking as her sister kahlan then i would want her to survive lol.
Flotsam says,
Even worse than Dennee is Richard- I know he's the main character and has to live or there wouldn't be a show, but how many times has he died now? Denna killed him and brought back as part of "training", and then killed him AGAIN so she could fulfill some diabolical I-wanna-rule the world scheme, and then in season two KAHLAN kills him in the last episode, only to be brought back to life when Cara conveniently shows up thirty seconds later. Talk about confusing. I guess in Richard's worls nobody just dies.
Muse says,
I agree. I was getting angry that Dennee kept coming back. For god's sake, die! I dont give a rat;s ass if she's there or not. if there is a thrid season, i swear she better not be in it.
Templeofthewinds says,
LOL ! I have to say, you're completely right ! I don't have anything against Dennee but she's is only mentionned in the books (and not so often) and here we have her, again, and again...and again !
And @Flotsam's right too. Richard died countless time but he always come back ! Just like Darken Rahl who find a way to live again, and Cara, etc Actually the whole thing with the breath of life and all the magic is a little too convenient !

In the books I believe Dennee isnt even her sister...She died but she never came back in the 2ed book....They changed so much from the books but I still love the show lol
And in the books if you were a good person You wouldn't go to the Keeper you would go be with the "Good Spirts"

Raz says,
You go to the keeper no matter what you were in life. You just go to certain "levels" depending on what you did in life
Me says,
well, they are doing things a little differently to maybe add some suspense. SmileForHarley is correct about the fact that, She isn't Kahlans sister in the book, they are best friends. Dennee's mother raised Kahlan when her mother died! Dennee isn't a really a main character in the book. She is briefly mentioned. But that goes the same for Darken Rahl, he is Richard's Father in the book. And she is right again when she says that you go to the Good Spirits if you are a good Person in life. They Have taken a completely different spin on the show, then what Terry Goodkind wrote. Very good and entertaining show, but you cant really connect the book with the show, except for Zedd, Richard, and Kahlan's Characters. They don't even talk about the mudd people and Richards Sister Jensen isn't even a part of the story until, the book The Pillars of Creation. yet she was in the first season!
