Second series?

It's recently been announced on the Broadcasting Cable website, that Disney - ABC Domestic Television has renewed Legend of the Seeker for a second series.

For now we'll treat this as a rumour until it's been officially confirmed.

But, what do you think? I've had many messages from fans of the books who've been very disappointed with the show, they swore to never watch the show again. But, if it's been renewed for a second series, someone must be watching it (you). Do you think that people who haven't been exposed to the books, enjoy the television show more? Or do you believe a book fan can also been a TV fan? I'm both, but maybe I'm in the minority. Prove me wrong!

This isn't a rumor. It has indeed been renwed.

I mean this quote is an outright confirmation by the president of Disney-ABC Domestic Television:

“‘Legend of the Seeker,’ the No. 1 new first-run syndicated show of the 2008-09 season, has proven to be a great fit for our Tribune launch group,” Janice Marinelli, president of Disney-ABC Domestic Television, said in a statement.

“We’re enormously pleased with their confidence in this exciting new scripted hour and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership with them into ‘Seeker’s’ second season,” she said.

Here is the link to the source of that quote:

My husband read the first nine books, but I thought they were too violent. Then we found out that it was a tv show and started in with show #4 about Brenedin.I hope I spelled that right. Any way we have been watching the show ever since. I started reading the books because of the show, and I realize that they are not entirely the same but I also love both. The actors are wonderful and would imagine them as pretty close to the way I would see them in the book. I have now finished all 11 books plus debt of bones and as I have come to realize, a movie or tv show can never do a book justice. I just hope that they will put the show on DVD soon and I hope they will include bonus features like bloopers and deleted scenes and commentaries to explain why they did what they did.
PleaseHush says,
I've read all the books, and I definitely love them more than the show.

But the show is...interesting. Sometimes I feel like chucking a book at the TV screen, while at other times I'm hopping up and down and screaming, "RICHARD, LOOK BEHIND YOU!"

I'll definitely keep watching the show because it's interesting.
Books are still amazing, though! =D
Dragoncri says,
I've read all the books several times over so I know the story inside and out.
I knew before even watching the 1st episode that there were going to be changes, but never expected the drastic changes made to the underlying story.
While the books are by far one of my favorites, the TV series is interesting. I watch it just to see what they will do to the story line and try to guess how they will attempt to bring it back in line with the root story.

Now on the flip side, while I like the actors, the writers have really made the characters weak. Especially the D'Haran soldiers. Even Richard and Kalan are weak. In the books, they are the type of people who have a commanding presence, while in the show, they are more like "Who are you?". Zedd and the Mord Sith are done pretty well, and who can or will argue with a babe in a skin-tight red leather outfit. :-)

All in all, though I don't agree with how the story line is messed with, I can understand why and I do enjoy the show to watch it twice just so I can pick up on those "little" things.

I think it is a good show. Overall much needed in this sea of boredom television. sure I'll watch my dramas but this is something you can escape with so to speak. I was displeased with the differences from the books and tv show. I know there would be differences as the show is 40 or less minutes and that there are only 22 episodes that would be shown. The thing is however I expected they'd keep most of the good stuff intact. The overall important details which I don't want to spoil for everyone else but they didn't and I was upset. The thing is they messed the whole story up with the beginning episodes. The first 2 set it up for failure. Where the book was interesting and non-typical the show was cliche. However I think episode 3 ruined the feel of the show since the first 2 episodes felt epic although largely different from the books. I hated the episode "Listener" as it defintieyl ruined the story even further and it was a bad episode all around.
It redeemed itself with puppeteer and failed again with Sacrifice.
However that's not to say I don't like the show. In fact it is it's an okay show. Could be better however if it stayed cloesr to the books.

I'm loving the tv series at the moment and a second season will be very welcome in my eyes. But I am first and formost a book fan having read all the books I do find myself shouting at the screen in outrage that something trivial has been changed (i.e the length of a females hair), but it still keeps me rivited to my seat in suspense. I know whats going to happen it's just interesting and exciting to know how it's going to get there. I knew it would be different, everything is different when making the transition from book to electronic entertainment (lol film/tv). But I am please to say that I am both a Book Fan and a TV fan.
jason says,
let me just say that i am the biggest terry goodkind fan in the world. his books are legendary! i have to disagree a little with dragoncri a little. in wizards first rule, richard was not a comanding presance. i think craig horner is playing the character absolutley grerat. in the books richard was always about doing what was right, and i think craig horner did his homework, because the last 3 episodes tipify what richards character is all about. now i have to admit that when i heard they were making a series i was very skeptical, and while it took me a few episodes to get over the fact that the show isnt exactly like the book, now i'm just fine with it. especialy the last 3 episodes, very moving, very well acted, and very well filmed. and the great part about the whole thing is, you know these actors are just going to get better and better as time goes on!
so just stop complaining about it being different and enjoy a well made show!

i have read the books and i really love them, and watching this serie makes me remember why... becouse the serie, i think is at most just ok and nothing more. and watching them really destroying the wonderful storyline almost makes me cry sometimes :´-) but it makes me realise how great the books are and that i thank for. almost the only reason i se the episodes is to se if the really can destroy the storyline more and i am surprised to se that they can, and now i cant take it anymore, i'm gonna read the books instead. read the books instead they are a 1000 times better.

a good idea but they blow it big time!
Lina says,
I haven't read the books but I do believe they have done a great job with the customs, and the scenery is amazing. I have never seen a series or a movie that reflects exactly what a book, I do believe is art in itself and should be looked a separate entity. I will still continue to be a fan. It is a great story.
Jennifer says,
I have read all of the books in the series including the Debt of Bones....many times over. They are my favorite book series without a doubt. That said, I still love the series. The way they cast the characters are similar, clothes wise, but not presence wise. I always figured Richard as being larger and Kahlan having really long hair. Not to mention the fact that D'Harans are supposed to be blonde and really huge. But I still love the series. I like the books more though. I am thrilled to see that there is going to be another episode. I can't wait. Sometimes I watch the show and go "What!?" Like the puppetteer episode. I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of the series.
gingersnap says,
I am currently reading the books. I am on Faith of the Fallen. And I LOVE the show. Maybe because I watched the show first, which then provoked me to read the books. I don't know. Maybe it's because the show has picked wonderful actors to protray the characters. I understand that not everything can follow to the word of the books. We know that to be true in film as well. I love the shows fresh adaption to what we have encountered in the book and even the different plot twists that aren't in the books. I think the show is about the same ideas as the books, which to me, is what matters. Maybe I'm just a girly, girl, but I am a sucker for forbidden love. Who isn't?
Kelly says,
I started out as reading the books just before the show started. I had been a fan of Craig Parker in Lord Of The Rings and when I found out he was going to be in this series I became interested. When I found out what the story was about I knew I had to read the books. I am on the third book now and love them. I have to admit I think the books are better but I have fallen in love with the show as well. I love to watch it and am glad it has been renewed for season 2. I like to watch for changes the plot from the book to see if I'll like them or not. The only things that have bothered me really (and truly not very much) were (1) the change in the plot for the Book of Counted Shadows. I thought it was cool in the book how Richard had it memorized and tricked Darken Rahl and (2) I liked the plot better in the book about Rachel being adopted by Chase. I know there are going to be differences with the show but all in all I love them both.
Funpea says,
Hello
I think the series is great fun. I like the three leading actors and I'm glad they are making series 2.
Hurray for the Seeker!!!
Donald Lane says,
my favorite show, period
Chris T says,
I haven't read the books but I'm enjoying the show. Yeah it's pretty cheesy: I groaned at the set-up with Richard as a farm-boy with a grand destiny... (where have I heard that one before?). It's not as cheesy as the BBC Robin Hood series which I also enjoy.

But it's good drama and I hope the show does improve as the producers and cast get more comfortable and getter better at it.
Themist says,
I am big fan of the books and have been watching the show so far, and I must say I´m quite dispointed! The first two episodes was epical by my standards but it felt like TV station blew the hole budget on those two episodes! the rest of the episodes feels like cheap xena productions. In my opinion the show must get darker sort of speak, more...(lack of better word) "brutal"
There are lot of stories they can take from the book instead of take side steps from the book!
M. Byron says,
The tv series has been interesting, and I disagree that it must get more brutal, but perhaps a little more realistic. There are so few interesting action series on TV any more that are family oriented viewing, and this is one of them. One thing that is disappointing and I wish it was possible to contact the show itself and tell them, is their inaccuracy when ever we see someone hold a bow and arrow. We constantly see the arrow on the wrong side of the bow. This is not just a matter of choice it is a mistake in directing and reality. It is like holding a sword by the blade instead of by the handle. Cannot the directors simply ask a real archer how a long bow and arrow is held. When your right hand holds the string, the arrow rests on the left side of the bow, it is not held between the outstretched fingers of the left hand, on the right side of the bow. Arrows cannot be shot accurately or even held securely if it does not lie on the bow correctly. When ever I see this stupid mistake it is an obvious sign that the director doesn't have a clue about archery, and those holding the bows, have never actually ever shot one at a target. For a show like this, where the costuming is fairly realistic, and where bows are a main part of the theme, they should try harder to be realistic on something so simple.
M Jones says,
I love the show, but like the books so much more. I only wish they would have explained better about the fundamentals of the magic, and why he can read the book in the first place, in that world. and why the mord sith could capture Richard, and how the sword of truth could affect the person that wielded the sword and used it falsely.
I do like trying to figure out the plot and which course they will follow to the end of the series. I am also glad that it was picked up for another season.
Jeff says,
I finally finished all the books recently about the same time I started downloading the shows off iTunes... I started watching it because i really like the books, but I knew from the beginning they were not going to try to follow the books that faithfully. (Heck to do the Denna story true justice would take 2 episides, IMHO) To be honest, i wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not. But I do. It's one of my favorite things to watch now.

There are few things that really bother me where they've differed from the book. (Like Kelley, I was hoping that Rachel would go to Chase like the book.) The divergence with the Book of Counted Shadows really doesn't bother me as much as Rachel's adoptive parent as my reaction to the book has been more of a 'How is this going to turn out?"-type attitude. The stories that they've added that aren't in the book actually add to my interest in the show.

For me it's kinda of like reading the book for the first time. I get see something new from Richard and Kahlan. The story in the show may not be true to the story in the books, but the thing that really sucked me into the books were the characters, especially Richard and Kahlan, and I think that they've done a very good job of pulling the essence of those characters, and Zed, into the show.

I can't wait to watch the next one to see what they do next.
Deborah says,
I love the series and the books!
The books i esepically love
The shows are great in their own way
I think Kahlan was perfect.. Zed and Richard are ok but i think they picked the Perfect Kahlan...
They also captured the love between Richard and Kahlan which is awesome
I am still a little disappionted about somethings like rachel and darken rahl but other then that i find myself cravin for new episodes
I can't wait for the seconds series!
Matthew says,
I have been watching this show from day one. I first started reading the Sword of Truth books with the Temple of Winds. That one caused me to back track to the beginning, and then proceed to the later books.

Some of the things in the show bug me, just because of how it's done. But at the same time I realize that these things are necessary, because some things you just can't put into a show as you can in a book.

Some of it is just stupid though, but then it's Disney, and odds are they wanted to G-rate it up some to make it happier. Like the fact of Kahlan's sister living happily ever after with her husband and baby boy. That's classic Disney, where the sister should have been dead by that time in the story.

It concerns me because as the books progress, there is more violence and sexuality, and I can only see Disney as messing things up to make it more kid friendly, to the effect that a lot of good parts are going to be ruined simply because they'll cut out the nudity, or the way the Imperial Order treats women in general.
Nadine says,
I'm pretty sure there are fans of the tv show who've never read one of the books before (I for myself ;P). I really hope there will be another series because I love the show.

I'll surelly read the books (I have the first one already on my bedside table) but I do enjoy the show very very much and can't wait for another ep. to be aired.
tamara says,
Another fan of both the books and the tv series.
My husband has never read the books and he also really likes the tv series. I think he may enjoy it a little more than I do, at times, because I am frequently saying- that is totally different than the book!
But I have come to grips with the fact that they are not going to keep to the stories (from the books) exactly and it is fine with me. icon_smile
