Richard Cypher has a date with destiny, but he certainly doesn't have one with the beautiful woman he just met named Kahlan. She catches his eye whilst running through the forests of Hartland, complete with four soldiers hot on her heels. Suspecting danger, Richard does the honourable thing and protects Kahlan, or at least tries to. An unexpected blow from one of the soldiers leaves him knocked out on the ground with little chance of helping her. But already the prophecy has begun, and Richard and Kahlan's chance encounter will lead them to meet each other once again, entwining their destinies in a fight for freedom, truth and love...
